The Department of Enterprise Engineering (DEE) is one of four engineering departments of University of Rome Tor Vergata. Faculty members at DEE include 36 full or associate professors, 28 researchers and 24 technicians. High qualified non-permanent and semi-permanent staff of approximately 60 people complete the “labor force” of the Department, making it one of the biggest and most effective in the University of Rome . The mission of the Department of Enterprise Engineering is to serve the University of Rome in a three-fold fundamental mission:

  1. provide first quality education service to bachelor, master degree and PhD students in the field of Management and Industrial Engineering;
  2. enhance significantly the knowledge in the basic principles of a number of different engineering disciplines and disseminate the most relevant results in academic and non-academic environments through effective publishing and lecturing activities;
  3. cooperate with public entities and, above all, with private centers to provide development opportunities and transfer knowledge to leading industries to support their applied research efforts, technological innovation programs and, consequently, promote the economic growth and leadership of the Country in many industrial segments.

Azimut‐Benetti is Europe’s leading boatyard (third worldwide) with a production value of 600 million Euro. The average annual increase of production value over the ten years from 1998 to 2008 has been 25% and during last years, although the huge crisis has halved the worldwide boatbuilding turnover, the company maintained its leadership. About 2000 people work for the Group AB, which also offers work to about three thousand people involved in the economic activities driven by this industry.

 AB’s R&D Department main fields of activities are:

  • Preliminary project and feasibility analysis of composite and steel yachts
  • Yacht Prototypes project and building
  • Structural analysis through FEA software (MSC Patran‐Nastran)
  • Experimental analysis of materials
  • Hydro and Aerodynamics studies through CFD software (STAR‐CCM)
  • Seas trials and on board measurements to evaluate boat performance

Colorobbia Consulting Srl is a company of Gruppo Colorobbia, that is one of the leading producers chemicals for glass and ceramic industry. Since 1999 the new department Ce.Ri.Col, an advanced chemical laboratory, has been devoted to business diversification. The laboratory is a reference for all the companies for the group. Two principle lines of research have been developed within Ce.RiCol: 1) glass ceramics materials and their application; 2) nano-materials synthesis, scale-up and industrialization for biomedical and industrial applications.

The organization of the research is divided in main 4 sub department:

The role of Ce.ri.col. is about the development of nano materials and their characterization and the set up of the scale up phase . Cericol set up its skill in the field of synthesis and scaling up of nanomaterials of several types.

Engineering Faculty of University of Rome Niccolò Cusano carry out research on many topics ensuring a multidisciplinary approach. The principal activities include: the development of new functional coatings and the related deposition processes; the study and development of new composite materials through the definition of matrices and fillers, through the analysis of the interaction and the subsequent mechanical and thermo-rheological characterization; the study and application of the metal foams (Al, Ti, steel, etc.) in the structural and functional domains (heat exchange, biomedical, etc.); the development of methods and instrumentation in the bioengineering and biomedical field, both for purposes of treatment and clinical diagnostics. The research group has for its activities of a structured chemical laboratory with equipment for the development of new materials. The laboratory also has numerous facilities for the mechanical thermal and rheological characterization (DSC, TG-DSC, universal machine for static mechanical tests, machine for dynamic mechanical testing 100 Hz, etc.).
